The Ogoni foundation is a registered UK charity which was started in 1995 by few committed Ogoni people in the United Kingdom.
It was formed at the time when there was increasing concerns about the economic deprivation, environmental devastation and serious human rights issues affecting the Ogoni people and other minorities and indigenous peoples of the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
It was imperative to raise the issues and create the necessary awareness not only in Nigeria but internationally. Equally important was to create a developmental aspect of the Niger Delta struggle, to tackle poverty, education and to provide help to those who have suffered the impacts of human rights abuses and environmental devastation of the Ogoni area and the Niger Delta region.
